Comments about Steelcase Amia with 3D Knit Back:

I found the Leap chair seat cushion has cushioning than the Amia Chair. But the back support of the Amia Chair is superior. I would like to have the option to completely remove the lumbar support as well. My husband has some back pain problem and if the chair could come without the lumbar support, that will be great.

Comments about Steelcase Amia with 3D Knit Back:

As a full-time telecommuter, I love this chair! It is very comfortable, highly adjustable and extremely supportive. The only downside--it's expensive--however, you get your money's worth. This chair is so well made and every aspect of it is adjustable. I have severe issues with my hips after many years of running and I am actually able to sit for long stretches of time without pain in this chair. The option to select hardwood casters is a nice feature which I'm glad I added. (And it comes in purple--my favorite color!)
I can't imagine ever owning a different brand of chair.

Comments about Steelcase Amia with 3D Knit Back:

This is a very pricey chair, but I wanted something long lasting and comfortable for my home office. This chair is comfortable for about a 1/2 hour, but then you start noticing how stiff the seat really is. I find when working from this chair a couple of days, my butt and back hurt due to the stiffness of the padding and consequently have to switch it out with a normal padded chair. I could understand it more if it was a $100 chair, but at nearly $600 this was a expensive and physically painful mistake.

Comments about Steelcase Amia with 3D Knit Back:

I bought my Amia chair when they first came out in 2009. It is advertised for up to 300 lbs. I weighed close to 280 when I bought it and it was not comfortable for me at that weight. I'm a short, fat woman; so my weight was not distributed comfortably for this chair.

I contacted Steelcase and they suggested exchanging it for a Criterion Plus, which is constructed for weights up to 500 lbs. The Criterion Plus cost twice what an Amia cost, so I figured it would be cheaper to lose the weight.

I lost over 50 lbs and find that if I weigh under 230 the chair is very comfortable. When I go over 230 it is not comfortable. In a funny way this helps keep me from gaining weight. I try to keep under 230 lbs because I need to sit at my desk for long hours; so when I start going back up, I drop a few pounds until I'm comfortable again.

Comments about Steelcase Amia with 3D Knit Back:

We had a contest at work where we brought in 5 different chairs and had various shapes and sizes try them out. The Amia came out as the winner. For corporate solutions they provided us with a bunch of fabric options, which was nice!

While there have been some complaints (people are resitant to change) the overwhelming majority love their new chairs. We have had them in place now for about 3 years with no repairs needed.

Because there have been a few complaints, I can't quite give this chair the five stars, but it's definitely a solid four.

I read that standard height is 21" and I need 23" to 26" floor to chair seat height to accommodate a Steelcase ADXM3060L0 desk which I am unable to install a keyboard tray under. If a different pneumatic gas cylinder is installed, what is the maximum height? What are the cylinder options and prices?

Amia 482 series chairs have been tested to increased loads and forces that exceed the ANSI/BIFMA X5.1Standard. This ensures that those models tested will support users weighing up to 300 lbs with no loss of performance.

                  Hello Lawrence,

There is an extended pneumatic cylinder that you can get for the Amia chair, this will make the seat height from the floor to be 17"H to 24"H.

We would strongly recommend an authorized installer to do this, you can get in contact with one of our authorized dealers to see if they can assist you with this.

Yes, the Amia chair has what we called the Synchro-tilt feature, this means that the chair back and seat are synchronized to move in a 2:1 ratio. When the user leans back, the seat rises only half as much, allowing the userʼs feet to remain flat on the floor

Hi Steve. With our hassle-free return policy, you have a 30 day period of time where if you decide you do not like the arms, you can return the chair and reorder it without arms, that way you are not paying for the removed arm option that you do not have in use. We also have a new No-Risk Chair Demo program for our Amia chair you may be interested in:
