Comments about Steelcase Leap Chair - Fabric:

I would not recommend this chair to anyone. The arm rests are poor quality, cheap material, and disintegrate in black powdery chuncks in a short time. The cost of replacing the arm rests at yearly intervals is prohibitive. Avoid this chair at all costs!!!!. Not at all up to Steelcase standards.

Comments about Steelcase Leap Chair - Fabric:

I am disappointed by the head rest. It does not adjust to fit and provide neck support for me because it cannot be lowered anymore. I had hoped it would adjust to my needs considering how ergonomic the leap chair is known to be.

Therefore, I am hesitant to purchase anymore and refer them to people.

Comments about Steelcase Leap Chair - Fabric:

Although employed by a high-tech company to work on-site, I sometimes telecommute from home. When my home office chair broke after years of good service, I tried various replacement chairs, but found them quite uncomforable.

After some reflection, I thought "why not simply order the same chair I use at work? It's a great chair and I can stop experimenting and wasting time looking for a replacement."

After a short investigation, I found out my work chair was a Leap chair by Steelcase. I immediately ordered one for my home office and have been using it for months now. It feels just as good (identical, actually) to the one on-site. I'm happy.

I spend more time at my desk than I do in my bed, so I figured I might as well spend the same amount for a good chair as I do a good mattress. It has made a big difference in my overall comfort. The adjustability let's me work in various positions that still provide support and mobility.

Comments about Steelcase Leap Chair - Fabric:

The lumbar support is superior to most chairs, and the seat depth adjustment is unique and great for short people. But this chair is missing 2 adjustments that my old $200 chair had - the seat does not tilt at all, so I can't make my knees a bit lower than my hips, which is recommended for low back pain. The second problem is that while the flexibility of the back is adjustable, the position is not and that seems strange. I would like to sit up straighter, I feel like I am leaning back a little top far. Bottom line is that for the price of this ride, I expected those 2 adjustments.

                    Hello Jim,

The headrest and the backrest of a Leap chair is a one-piece, so to add a headrest to an existing chair you will need to replace the backrest also. We currently do not sell this part through the online store, but if you contact an Authorized Steelcase Dealership in your area, they will be able to assist you in ordering one:

                • Q:

I doubt that this chair would be comfortable for me. I have read some comments about the lumbar support, but when I look at the picture, it appears to me to be deficient in that regard. Perhaps I am wrong. It appears that the seat back has support for L1 and L2, but not for L4 and L5. When I ride in the passenger seat of a car, I use a lumbar pillow that is 8 inches high and 14 inches wide. It provides lumbar support for L4 and L5, as well as the sacral spine. I can ride for an hour or so in a reclining car seat, or on Amtrak, using that lumbar pillow. I don't see how to sit in a reclining position in this chair, even with a lumbar pillow. Indeed, I suspect that the lumbar pillow would fall out the bottom in the space between the seat cushion and the back support. Does anyone know where I can find a reclining chair with adequate support for L4 and L5? (I have already tried La-Z-Boy. Their recliners don't work for me.)

                    A:

                    Hello Bur,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding lumbar support of the Leap chair. We obviously can’t assure you that this chair will provide the level of lumbar support that you seek or prefer, but we can provide a little background on how the back of the Leap chair is designed that may help and would encourage you to demo a chair as it is the best way to determine if it provides the appropriate amount of support you desire.

                    1. 4 years of research preceded the development of the Leap chair with some of the leading ergonomists and spine experts in the country. Early on, researchers attached flexible tapes containing light emitting diodes to the research participant’s spines. The motion of their spine through a full range of motion (upright to recline) was plotted and researchers observed that not only was everyone’s spinal motion unique, but that it changed throughout the day. The shape of the spine also changed as the participants moved from upright to reclined postures.
                    2. This research became the basis for the patented LiveBack™ technology in Leap. The seating development engineers designed the Leap backrest to mimic this “natural” spinal motion by creating a backrest that changed shape as you change posture. The above mentioned “plot” provided them with in effect a roadmap for the geometry of the back rest shape change. Over the course of development, numerous prototypes were made, tested, tweaked and retested with hundreds of participants to dial in the right amount of comfort and support for users.
                    3. That said, there is a variability in the amount of lumbar support that people prefer. I would encourage you to read the online reviews of the chair, but again, testing it is still the best way as comfort and support are still very subjective.

Buzz2 is the name of the fabric, it has a subtle texture, it is technically called a dobby weave. It is not smooth but it is not ribbed either. It is a tightly woven pattern.
